Two is Better than One: Dual Sim Love

Since I started working in HP, dual-sim phones have become indispensable. My first dual sim was a Myphone Q22. It was cheap, at aeound P3,500. To be honest, I wasn't expecting too much from it, but that phone actually passed the two year mark and was still functioning pretty well when I decided to replace it with an LG P698, dual-sim Android phone.

Big mistake.

Not only was battery life dismal (well standard for a smartphone), but touchscreen was quite laggy at times and worst of all, there were times battery drained from 50% to 0% on standby! I guess some of these could be minor caveats for those who don't necessarily have to be available all the time, because the phone functioned well most cases, but it was not acceptable to someone like me, who was on call, and have this weird need to being "always on".

I missed my MyPhone. It was basic, it was no-frills, but it was reliable. And it would take days before I needed to charge it.

So, I started looking for a replacement, this time I knew what I wanted. Nothing fancy, something functional, and with a strong battery life. I considered getting another MyPhone, but I also checked out other "branded" phones who were now offering dual sim models and I found the Nokia Asha 200.

I love the way this phone looks, mine's white, it's made of plastic but feels durable, and it's very light. So far, I'm still getting used to it, because I haven't owned a Nokia in over a decade, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.

Initial thoughts, it's pretty good, it does what its supposed to. The things I don't like too much about it, would be it takes too many clicks to send something, and the headset is just plain awful, and I mean awful. I replaced mine with my regular earphones and sound quality is decidedly better. But these little things are just minor negatives, especially since the phone can be bought at just P3,250 and maybe cheaper in other stores as of time of writing. Anyway, I have the rest of the week to test it out, but so far, I'm liking it. It's not perfect, but it's pretty good.

Harry Potter Love

In less than a month, the final Harry Potter movie will be released in cinemas...I am literally counting the days until I can score 1st day, 1st showing tickets from Sureseats. In the meantime, I have this awesome, awesome trailer to tide me over.

I was first introduced to Harry by my British cousin, John. He was about 10 I think some 12 years ago, and they were visiting my grandparents here in Manila. He was reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (later changed to Sorcerer's stone in the US edition), and he was very excited about it, told me it was a good book.

One afternoon, with nothing better to do, I read it. It was a kid's book, so it took me just an hour to read it, but for some reason, I got hooked. My cousin was returning to the UK so I had to buy my own copy of the 1st book (so I can reread it), and bought Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban - I was still studying so I had to borrow money from my parents for the book. :P I eagerly read the second and third books (on the same day mind you). And I swear, I thought Prisoner of Azkaban was the best book ever! I was so in love with Remus Lupin's character that I liked him even more than Harry.

And the rest, as they say, is history. It didn't take long for Goblet of Fire to come out, but then the wait for the 5th, 6th and 7th books was torture. Granted, I could always re-read the earlier books, I even had audiobooks and e-books of the entire series, and even backup paperback copies. I mean, backup paperback copies? Who does that? My top 3 books are definitely Deathly Hallows, Half-Blood Prince and Prisoner of Azkaban.

Anyway, going back to the movies...well, there are some criticisms to note, and I don't always agree with the way they edit them, but I am still eternally grateful to WB for producing them. They still brought Harry Potter to life, in a way even my imagination would not have been able to. And I have to say, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Tom Felton, Alan Rickman, Jason Isaacs, Ralph Fiennes - basically the entire HP cast are just all amazing. And that British accent is just always so nice to hear.

I will definitely cry when I finally get to watch this movie. I can't wait to watch it, but at the same time I just don't want it to end... it's like the Deathly Hallows release all over again. All I know is, Harry Potter will always have a special place in my life - and the magic will live on, no matter what.

Technical Difficulties

I may have a Computer Science degree, but that doesn't mean I can troubleshoot anything computer-related.

I am experiencing technical difficulties.

For the past few years, I've hosted my blog on Blogger.com and never adjusted my menus/pages etc. But now, it's like I have to set up everything. OK fine, not everything, to be honest the templates on Wordpress are pretty much easily customizable, so what the hell is taking me so long?

I think being obssessive-compulsive is a factor...I keep rearranging my menu, changing my blog categories, updating my about me page. It doesn't really add to the overall value of this site, but I can't move on until everything is ready.

So bear with me for a couple of days while I work this stuff out. :P You can check out my links section in the meantime but don't forget to come visit me soon!

Hello World!

Why hello there! And welcome to my site. :) I'm sure you're wondering what it's all about, so let me tell you. This website is really just a venue for me to post random ramblings of things that I've done, seen, observed, experienced, care about ---well you get the idea right?

I've been blogging for a while now, but lately I have not been updating my blog as often as I should. I'm hoping owning my own domain will pressure me to write more often. Because you see, I really need an outlet sometimes.

If you're interested in reading my back posts, my original blog is available at http://geekyobserver.blogspot.com. For your convenience, I have imported selected posts from my old blog, and I hope you enjoy reading them!
